Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport
One New Orleans airport many visitors might be familiar with would be the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. This New Orleans airport (as of November 2007) has been returned to 75% of its operational capacity before Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport launched two incentive programs in November 2006. One incentive program by this New Orleans airport was to encourage carriers to boost their aviation services to the airport while the other program to make the facility more visitor-friendly was called Music to Your Eyes. Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport currently maintains two terminals that have the A, B, C and D Concourses. By December 2007, the airport’s carriers have been able to operate 127 flights every day to a total of 38 destinations.
New Orleans Lakefront Airport
Another New Orleans airport that the natives know about is the New Orleans Lakefront Airport (formerly the Shushan Airport) based in Orleans Parish. At present, this public New Orleans airport is used mainly by the Gulf Coast Aviation company as a pilot training facility, serving either recreational pilots or commercial pilots. Gulf Coast Aviation is classified as a Cessna Flight Training Center which runs computer-based and ground training services for students. At one time, the New Orleans Lakefront Airport served as the main commercial New Orleans airport (but that role has been given now to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.) Ironically, Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport didn’t suffer as much damage from Hurricane Katrina as that taken by the New Orleans Lakefront Airport.
