Shim Sham

This Vieux Carre club is at the height of fashion with its leopard and zebra- print barstools. The music is all- retro, as the swing craze moves through the Crescent City. Themed acts feature native New Orleans Sam Butera and fuzz- guitar legend Link Wray. Other attractions unique to this stylish club are the lizard jukebox and the upstairs tiki bar. Enjoy your favorite beer or mixed drink while you converse and listen to smooth sounds.

Located on the site of a former cabaret club, the Shim Sham veers about as far from the casual, relaxed atmosphere as possible, while still retaining a distinct cabaret feel.

The Shim Sham is a hipster haven par excellence. There are probably more wing- tip shoes, wire- frame glasses, wallet chains, bowling shirts and retro haircuts here than anywhere in the city.
The booking is also oddball eclectic, ranging from Counting Crows frontman Adam Duritz (who has played here solo during Jazz Fest) to the Afghan Whigs, distortion/surf- rock godfather Link Wray, '80s alt- pop act Gene Loves Jezebel and rockabilly spitfire Kim Lenz.
